The photographic installation Medical Spaces consists of twenty images of fictitious settings and ephemeral constructions in which medicines are represented as buildings. Huge triumphant structures of glowing pills and containers are put together to create an imaginary space for the body, a ‘medical space’ in which pills appear powerful, as their architectural structure implies. This body of work conceives pharmaceutical products as mediators exercising power and control over the human body. In Medical Spaces, the body has been ‘consumed’ by medicines and is manifested by its absence or as a caricature.
